MESAMBRIA Residence is a residential building located in the New Town of Nessebar, in close proximity to the historic peninsula — a place where more than three millennia of history have left their architectural and spatial layers. Ancient Mesambria, which later became Nessebar, is a city shaped by a continuous dialogue between land, sea, light, and human presence. The concept of the building seeks a contemporary architectural interpretation of this relationship.

The volume is organized as a clear, horizontally articulated structure, where the white lines of the floor slabs and balconies establish a rhythm and emphasize the horizon. Between them, the natural texture of wood introduces warmth and a human scale, while large glazed surfaces blur the boundary between interior and exterior.

The contrast between the lightness of the residential volume and the massive concrete element housing the vertical circulation forms the building’s primary architectural gesture. More than a structural and functional accent, it acts as a sculptural fragment that gives identity to the silhouette. The solidity of concrete meets the transparency of glass, while the horizontality of the residential floors encounters the dynamism of the vertical volume.

The building is therefore simultaneously light and massive, open and protected, contemporary and rooted in its context.

The name MESAMBRIA refers to the ancient name of Nessebar and represents a deliberate attempt to connect the architecture not only to its geographical location, but also to the city’s multilayered history. Mesambria was a maritime, commercial, and cultural center, maintaining connections with cities across the Black Sea, the Aegean, and the Mediterranean.

MESAMBRIA Residence does not recreate the historic Nessebar. Instead, it seeks its contemporary expression — through the horizon, light, materiality, and its relationship with the sea.
